Dorset Neuro Physio provides specialist upper limb rehabilitation. This is exercise, hands-on therapy, activities and adjuncts to improve movement and function of the shoulder, arm and hands.
Upper limb rehabilitation approaches and adjuncts we offer:
Strength training
Task-related practice and repetition
Mirror box therapy
Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation
Constraint-induced movement therapy
Mental Imagery
Maximising recovery of the hand and arm
There is increasing evidence that specific interventions for the upper limb can improve motor performance, even months or years following a neurological event. We also know that repetitive practice of tasks and intensity of therapy and activities improve recovery and reduce disability.
A programme or course of treatment will be tailored to the individual.
The programme may include hands-on therapy and facilitation of movement, strengthening weak muscles and practising everyday functional activities.
We aim towards a 24-hour approach, considering posture and use of the arm throughout the day. We provide education for the individual, carer and family and set up individual stretching and exercise programmes.
